Generally, organisations manage this element quite well via Line Managers and Health and Safety Officers for compliance reasons; however there are often still problems from a qualitative perspective. It is important to understand whether the Managers who undertake the risk assessments are:

Competent to understand the specific health risks due to individual variations.
Competent to understand how to make simple changes to working practices to reduce health risks.
Aware of and understand the responsibility and opportunities for employees to become fit for purpose.

HRM can offer its Health Risk Assessment service as part of an organisation’s normal risk assessment process. This service can be used as a stand alone when either a person has declared a medical condion on employment and may have additional risk factors that need to be taken into account or when an employee is temporarily ill or injured.
