Occupational Health Assessment Services

Healthcare RM offers a complete range of health and safety audits to assess the physical and psychological risks to employees, contractors and customers.

We are able to provide an occupational health assessment as part of your organisation's normal risk assessment process - such as when a person has declared a medical condition on employment and may have additional risk factors that need to be taken into account - or when an employee is temporarily ill or injured. Alternatively we can provide a full stand-alone risk assessment process.

Organisations frequently fail to use the appropriate validated tools for assessing musculoskeletal and mental health risks. This is mostly due to a lack of training. But as these two conditions combined are typically responsible for 80% of all ill health within an organisation, proper validation is critical.

Physical occupational health assessment

Physical risk assessment is normally carried out in-house by line managers and health and safety officers.  For compliance reasons, however, it is important that all personnel who undertake risk assessments are:

  • Competent to understand the specific health risks due to individual variations
  • Competent to understand how to make simple changes to working practices to reduce health risks
  • Aware of and understand the responsibility and opportunities for employees to become fit for purpose

We are able to carry out a training needs assessment to identify knowledge gaps in your workforce.

Psychological occupational health assessment

Very few organisations are compliant in the area psychological health risk assessment. This is due mainly to difficulties in understanding how to assess psychological hazards. To be able to measure and manage problems, line managers and health and safety officers must understand:

  • Variations in psychological hazards and how they affect different people in different ways at different times
  • The correlation between work-related stress and personal problems
  • How to manage any short, medium and long-term issues which may be identified
  • Understand the concept of work-relatedness so that they may help defend any employer liability claim

Examples of general occupational psychological risks include:

  • Aggressive customers/clients
  • Abusive/under the influence of alcohol or drugs customers/colleagues
  • Bullying management style
  • Potential and actual suicide attempts
  • Working alone, especially at night
  • Shift work
  • Potential terrorist attacks
  • Job insecurity/organisational change

A psychological health risk assessment conducted by Healthcare RM is designed to identify specific risks to your workforce, as well as analysing knowledge gaps and training needs among line managers.
