- She then need Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy and looked towards private hospital
- HRM again discussed benefits of NHS treatment which she decided to again take under the NHS
- She then required Herceptin which at the time was not available under the NHS
- HRM negotiated with two NHS Hospitals and arranged for Herceptin in a local hospital under the NHS

- VIP required Heart Surgery
- Intended to have procedure in London Private Hospital
- VIP was over 65 and had other complications
- HRM advised benefits of being in NHS facility due to age and possible other complications
- HRM arranged for his treatment to take place at National Heart Hospital (NHS hospital in London) as a private patient
- VIP rang post surgery to thank HRM for recommending the NHS as he realised the additional value of being in a centre of excellence
- Savings £4,000 and more appropriate clinical setting for patient
Case Study 3
- Teenager admitted in a emergency to an NHS hospital
- Initial investigations took place but teenager waiting for hours in hospital without being treated
- Parents wanted to transfer to private facility and to a specific specialist
- After investigations HRM allowed transfer to private facility to allow mother and son some rest and to ensure management by the Consultant who appeared to be a top specialist in the medical condition
- Parents convinced private treatment better
- Teenager discharged but teenager’s problem not resolved
- HRM discussed problem with the Consultant
- Teenager and mother having to travel significant distant to see this Consultant
- HRM discussed transfer to NHS and admission to NHS facility local to home
