The Careline is a Confidential Employee Support Service where employees (and their families) may self-refer for advice, guidance and where necessary treatment.
Employees may use the service for a wide range of Mental Health problems including:
- Stress
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Bi-Polar
- Chronic pain
- M.E.
- Fibromyalgia
- Alcohol and Drug problems
The Careline provides:
- A clinical telephone assessment of the patients condition
- Identification whether the patient may be assisted by advice, guidance and health education
- Identification whether a person requires treatment
- Identification of the most appropriate clinician to whom the patient should be referred
- The arrangement of treatment and management through the treatment programme
- A facility to review the success of the initial treatment and to establish whether alternative treatment is required
- Management of personnel and work related issues
- The ability to reduce the risk of future problems
The Careline provides a broader service than the traditional EAP allowing access to evidence based treatments such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, other approved Psychological assessments and therapies, Psychiatry and Exercise and Nutritition.

Case Study 1
- Employee rang Careline with marital problems
- However assessment indicated a more serious medical problem including threatening behaviour to others
- HRM arranged for him to be admitted to hospital within 3 hours of calling the Careline
- After 2 weeks employee was discharged and HRM managed his return to work
Case Study 2
- Employee rang Careline threatening to kill her partner
- At time she had a knife in her hand and had her partner trapped
- He had convinced her to call for help
- Whilst HRM kept the lady talking we also arranged for the GP and the Police to attend the scene
- In the meantime we encouraged the employee to let her partner leave the house
- The GP arrived and medicated the lady then arranged for hospital admittance
- HRM managed the case until she was well enough to return to work
Case Study 3
- Employee claiming he was suffering from work-related stress
- Blamed his manager for the pressure he was under
- HRM identified that he had a number of personal problems including the fact that his son was seriously ill with cancer
- HRM arranged for him to have treatment and agreed with his manager to work on modified duties
- Employee was stating he would make a claim against Employer and sought legal advice
- Lawyer encouraged him to make a claim
- HRM however worked with employee and made him realise that his problem was personal and that this was causing him to be stressed at work and that his employer had tried to help him
- He ultimately decided to leave the company and to take a job which allowed him to spend more time with his son
