This service is designed to help employees (and their families) when suffering from any musculoskeletal condition.
Employees may use the service for a wide range of musculoskeletal problems affecting:
- Back
- Neck
- Hip
- Knee
- Shoulder
- other joints
The Careline will provide:
- A clinical telephone assessment of the patients condition
- Identify whether the patient may be assisted by advice, guidance and health education
- Identify whether a person requires treatment
- Identify the most appropriate clinician to whom the patient should be referred
- Arranging the treatment and managing through the treatment programme
- Review of the success of the initial treatment and establish whether alternative treatment is required
- Manage personnel and work related issues
- Reduce the risk of future problems

Case Study 1
- Employee rings the Careline with back pain
- Employee states that he has seen his GP and a physiotherapist
- HRM identifies that this person is potentially suffering from a serious medical condition that requires prompt treatment
- HRM arranges for him to be assessed the following day
- 2 days later he is admitted into hospital for surgery
- If this patient had not have received surgery he would have become paralysed from the waist down
Case Study 2
- Employee rings Careline complaining of stiffness in hips and knees
- HRM assesses employee over the telephone and refers him to a network physiotherapist
- The physiotherapist assesses patient and provides some manipulation plus giving the employee some simple exercises
- The employee remains at work and HRM maintains contact to ensure that he is continuing with his exercises
- The stiffness gradually disappears and no further treatment is required
